Medwest Spine Team consists of our Spine surgeons, Radiologists, Pain Management Physicians, Rehabilitation Therapists.

Medwest Haywood proudly provides a comprehensive approach to spine care with Mountain Spine Care.  This team is led by spine surgeon, William Miller, M.D. a fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon and Jeffrey Albea, M.D. a neurosurgeon.  We are the only medical center in the area offering the collaborative approach of a neurosurgery-spine specialist and an orthopedic-spine specialist.

Rehabilitation Services:

Medwest’s team of masters and doctorate degrees in rehabilitation evaluate and treat a wide variety of patients. Acute back and neck pain, chronic pain, sports and work injuries, as well as pre and post operative spine patients.  All receive specialized plans of care to address pain, strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination deficits.  Hands on treatment may include stretching, soft tissue work, joint mobilization and manipulation, facilitation of inhibited muscle groups, and active release techniques.  Patients with spinal segments found to be hypermobile are provided with subsequent education and stabilization exercises.  Additional education on body mechanics and proper use of core musculature lessen pain and allow patients to resume functional activities sooner with increased safety.   Patients with work related injuries may receive work conditioning to speed up this process.  Other techniques utilized may include aquatic therapy and modalities. Speech and occupational therapy services can also assist with post operative swallowing difficulties or other difficulties with ADLs.
