Carolina Center for Joint Replacement (CCJR) is a comprehensive, team-focused approach that involves and educates patients about what will occur before, during, and after their joint replacement surgery. CCJR integrates efforts between patient and family, the surgeon and his office, pre-op, the operating room, anesthesia, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy, public relations, and administration. The result of this integration is increased efficiency and better patient outcomes and satisfaction. Encompassing a culture of excellence, patient, family and staff education are integral to the CCJR. Measures ensuring this include pre-op videos, a planned patient “pre-hab” program prior to surgery, special training for the treating nurses and informational newsletters for patients. During the in-patient portion of the program, patients will be receiving care from the highly trained staff of HRMC’s orthopaedic unit, located on the 7th floor of the hospital. CCJR is overseen by medical director Gerald King, M.D. and his associates at Western Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists. Dr. King has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for almost 25 years. He joined HRMC with a special interest in growing the joint replacement program in order to offer patients the most efficient and rapid post surgery recovery process. Dr. Catterson brings expertise to the team as an orthopaedic surgeon as well as a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist. The team also consists of Dr. Paul Cutting, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a fellowship in hand surgery.
