The
Women’s Continence Center, a rehabilitation service of HRMC, opened
in Fall 2002. The Center’s goal is to offer optimal rehabilitation
services to women throughout their lifespan. The staff, consisting of
licensed physical therapists and assistants, is specifically trained
in the area of women’s health.
Conditions which can be treated at
the center include urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic floor musculature
pain and weakness, and chronic
or acute pelvic pain. Treatments available include special training
with internal cueing in Kegel exercises (pelvic floor muscle contractions),
biofeedback equipment that will assist in strengthening or relaxing
the pelvic floor muscles, electrical stimulation that uses electrical
currents to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, and education in proper
bladder habits and lifestyle changes.
Women who feel they could benefit from services offered by the Women’s
Continence Center need to obtain a physician’s referral prior to
treatment. To schedule an appointment, call the Rehabilitation Services
Department at 452-8594 or 452-8070. The Women’s
Continence Center is located at 406 Jones Cove Road.
