Description:
- Miacalcin (‘calcitonin’) is a naturally occurring hormone involved in calcium regulation and bone metabolism.
- It has been shown to slow bone loss, increase spinal bone density and lower the risk of spine fractures.
- It is a small protein, and so it cannot be taken by mouth.
Guidelines for taking this medication:
- One squirt each day, alternating nostrils.
- If you miss a dose, give the missed dose as soon as possible.
- If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule.
- Do not use a double dose or take an extra dose.
- Store the unopened bottle in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- Do not freeze.
- Store the opened bottle in an upright position at room temperature.
- Throw away any unused portion after 30 days.
Possible side effects: Nasal irritation.
Reasons not to take this medicine:
- Allergy to calcitonin or any other part of this medicine.
- Allergy to salmon.
- If you are pregnant or may become pregnant.
- If you are breast feeding.
