Arthritis Action
Take an active role in managing your arthritis. Recent research revealed
that participants in an arthritis self-help course experience an 18%
reduction in pain and a per-person savings of $267 in health care costs
over 4 years. Discussion topics include: understanding arthritis, medications,
joint protection, energy conservation, exercise guidelines, and stress

Diabetes Education
The Diabetes Education Center at Haywood Regional Health & Fitness
Center offers individual and group education opportunities. A seven-week
educational series is designed for persons diagnosed with diabetes. The
classes are held each Monday from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. in the Duke Endowment
classrooms on the 2nd floor of the Fitness Center. Physician referral
is necessary for reimbursement and pre-registration is required. Please

Freedom from Smoking
If you desire to stop smoking, let Haywood Regional Medical Center help
you get started. This seven-session program “Freedom from smoking” is
sponsored by the American Lung Association and it is designed to help
you kick the habit. Instruction provided by at the Haywood Regional
Health & Fitness Center staff. Class will meet on Mondays. It is
$25 for the class series. To register, call 452-8088.
Healthy Weight Solutions
A weight management program that offers a new solution to an old problem
is being offered at the Health & Fitness Center. The program combines
easy nutritious meal plans that include your favorite foods with affordable,
convenient classes to help you lose weight and make long-term lifestyle

Osteoporosis Education Classes
The Osteoporosis Center at HRMC offers two education and rehabilitation
courses for patients with osteoporosis: "C.O.R.E."(Comprehensive
Osteoporosis Rehabilitation and Education) and "Fitcore".
Both classes meet in the Fitness Center classrooms and require a doctor's
referral. Classes include an initial physical therapy evaluation, dietary
information, exercise guidance with a physical therapist or exercise
physiologist and social services information. For more information,

Parent Education Program
A complete program of pregnancy, birth and parenting classes for the
entire family, presented by the Women's Care Center Childbirth Educators.

Wellness Wednesday
You are invited to stop by for free blood pressure and blood sugar checks.
The checks are offered from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on the 3rd
Wednesday of each month at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness
