It will be a magical night of glitz and glamour when the Foundation for MedWest Health System’s Harris and Swain hospitals hosts the “Here’s to Hollywood Gala” Aug. 13 at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Hotel Event Center.
The highlight of the night of fine dining and dancing, with music provided by the Goodtimes Big Band, will be the presentation of Oscar awards for Best Female and Best Male Actor awards.
Nominees for Best Male Actor are: Chuck Wooten, Jackson County Manager; Ray Don Letts, retired educator and business owner; and Scott Baker, dean of career technologies at Southwestern Community College.
Nominees for Best Female Actor are Ann Selby, wife of Dr. Larry Selby of Mountain Pathology Services; Janet Millsaps, the chief human resources officer for MedWest Health System; and Kim Preston, real estate broker/agent.
Each nominee will be soliciting friends, businesses and family members to raise funds for the Foundation. Each dollar they raise or receive is worth one vote.
This year, proceeds will go to help with construction of a new emergency department at MedWest-Harris and to purchase equipment for it. Proceeds from the event also will provide free mammograms for women who are uninsured or otherwise need financial assistance for this important screening. Attendees and other donors can direct where their funds will go.
“We want everyone in our community to have the opportunity to support these important projects. The Oscar awards are an excellent and affordable way to contribute to the new emergency department and ensure that all eligible women receive a mammogram,” said Steve Brown, executive director for the MedWest Foundations.
Tickets and sponsorships are still available for the 12th annual gala, to be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Tickets are $100 per person. Votes for the Oscar nominees can be submitted until the night of the gala by contacting the nominees or calling Krysta Cooper at 631-8893.
To purchase a ticket or to sign up as a sponsor for the event, call 631-8893.
