Hospice Volunteers

Haywood Regional Medical Center has a very active volunteer Hospice program. Hospice volunteers lend support to patients, their families and/or caregivers for respite and socialization. They perform office work, deliver roses and provide other needed services.  Many of the volunteers assist with fund-raising activities and patient projects.  Volunteer training has been expanded to include issues regarding infection control, risk-management and patient confidentiality.  Hospice also utilizes volunteer clergy to provide spiritual care.

Voluntary Chaplaincy Program

At Haywood Regional Medical Center, the chaplaincy program is carried out by associate chaplains and more than 30 volunteer chaplains. Volunteer chaplains are scheduled daily to provide services to patients and their families.

Volunteer chaplains visit patients, keep patients’ families updated in the surgery waiting room and staff the hospital chapel. Volunteer chaplains are also involved in a new program, which provides services specifically to the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department volunteer chaplains are on call 7 to 11 pm to assist patients during the time they are in the Emergency Department. For more information on the Chaplain program, please call 828-452-8297.

HRMC Foundation Volunteer Program

The sole purpose of the Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Foundation is to promote and administer charitable gifts for the advancement of HRMC’s abilities to respond fully to the changing and growing healthcare needs of our citizens. The Foundation is a 501 (C)(3) charitable corporation governed by a board of trustees who are civic leaders in the community.  Throughout the year, more than 200 volunteers assist the Foundation in numerous fund raising activities including: The Annual Fund; The Charitable Classic Golf Tournament and Gala; Capital Campaign; General Endowment Fund: Memorial Gifts; Estate and Planned Gifts; and restricted gifts for special projects. Your tax-deductible gifts and services contributed to the Foundation provide funds to ensure that our equipment and facilities are the most advanced, and that new programs and services are continuously being developed.
