MAY CALENDAR LISTINGS

New members who choose bank or credit card draft to pay their membership dues at Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center can get their initiation fee waived until May 16. For more information, call 452-8080.

May 6
A highly trained member of the rehabilitation staff will offer free knee screenings noon to 2 p.m. May 6 and May 20 at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center, by appointment only. Space is limited, so call 452-8070 to register.

May 8
The Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center will offer a lifeguard training course, beginning May 8. The cost isf $150 per participant. The class schedule is: 4 to 8 p.m. May 8; 5 to 8 p.m. May 9; 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. May 10; and 2 to 7 p.m. May 11. The course also will be offered from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. May 17; and 2 to 7 p.m. May 18. For signup information, call 452-8056.

May 12
Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice will hold a hospice volunteer training series from 9 a.m. until noon on May 12, 14, 19 and 21 at the Canton First United Methodist Social Hall, 29 Newfound Street, Canton. This 12-hour program will orient volunteers to the hospice philosophy and services and is required of all potential volunteers. Call Miles Smith at 452-8696 for an application or more information.  Pre-registration is required.

May 13
HRMC’s cardio-pulmonary department will hold an open house from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, May 13.

May 29
Haywood Sports Medicine will offer free pre-participation comprehensive sports physicals for middle and high school student athletes, starting at 6 p.m. May 29 at Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center. Times for the physicals will be as follows: Canton Middle School, 6 p.m.; Bethel Christian Academy, Haywood Christian Academy and Bethel Middle School, 6:30 p.m.’ Waynesville Middle School, 7 p.m.; and Tuscola High, 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 452-8077.
