Shuler presents American flag to HRMC

U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, D-Haywood, provided an American flag that previously was displayed at the U.S. Capitol to Haywood Regional Medical Center Tuesday.

Shuler’s regional field representative Boyce Deitz presented the flag to HRMC’s Chief Executive Officer Al Byers and Jason Woodbery, security supervisor at Haywood Regional. Also presented was a certification of authentication.

“We appreciate the gift of the flag,” Byers said. “Congressman Shuler has always been a trusted friend to Haywood Regional Medical Center.”

The flag will be the focal point at an upcoming service honoring the nation’s military men and women.

“We wanted something special for our auxiliary’s annual ‘Proud to be an American’ ceremony. We will proudly display the flag at our hospital entrance,” Byers said.

The “Proud to be an American” memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at the hospital entrance.

Prior to the service, anyone can add the name or names of a family member or acquaintance to a display in the medical center lobby for a donation of $5 per name.
