Mowery named HRMC Employee of the Month for April

Kenneth Mowery, a medical laboratory technician (ASCP certified) at the Urgent Care Center, has been selected as Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Employee of the Month for April.

Mowery has worked at HRMC for eight years. He performs routine veinipuncture, hematology, serology and microbiology testing at the Urgent Care.  Other duties include checking in patients, applying splints, and other nursing duties.

He has worked as the only lab technician at the Urgent Care Center for several months. He did that while attending school and being a full-time parent.

“When the lab was down one employee, Mowery stepped up and worked many hours to help,” a co-worker wrote on the Catch Someone nomination card.

Mowery served in the U.S. Air Force from 1985 to 1990. He earned an associate degree in applied science and a diploma in crime scene investigations from Ashworth University in 2000, and is currently working on an associate degree in criminal investigations, and will graduate in April 2009.

“What I like most about my job is the people I work with and helping patients. The atmosphere at the Urgent Care Center is excellent and everyone there is a joy to work with,” Mowery said.

Mowery was born in Augusta, Ga. in 1967.  His hobbies and spare time activities include fishing, golf, watching NFL football, and metal detecting.

“He always helps when needed.  He is consistently pleasant and helpful to everyone,” one co-worker wrote on a nomination card. “Kenneth consistently maintains a positive attitude, even though he is our only lab tech. We are fortunate to have Kenneth as part of our team. We can’t thank him enough,” another co-worker wrote. “Kenneth is always working, but through it all he is always positive and cheerful,” a co-worker wrote.
