Stransky joins Haywood Pediatrics

A fourth pediatrician has joined the staff at Haywood Pediatrics. Dr. Trew Stransky’s first day at the pediatric office will be April 14. Stransky will work primarily at the Clyde office of Haywood Pediatrics, but will join the other doctors for rotation at the Canton office.

Stransky and his family recently moved to Haywood County from Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.  He was raised in the suburbs outside of Detroit, Mich.  He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and then moved to Glendale, Ariz. to complete his medical school training at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.

His internship and residency training was completed at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., and DeVos Children’s Hospital at Spectrum Health. His most recent work experience was at Door County Memorial Hospital in Sturgeon Bay.

Professionally, Dr. Stransky enjoys general pediatrics and caring for children of all ages.  He has a special interest in sports medicine and has experience as a high school team physician at his previous place of residence, providing medical care for football, wrestling and basketball for four high schools. He also was involved in the creation of “Family Fit,” a 13-week course for overweight children, teaching healthy changes in diet and exercise.

Stransky and his wife, Caryn, have three children, Cade, 7; Leah, 4; and Carson, 15 months. He enjoys spend time with his family, golfing, woodworking, hiking and watching college sporting events.

“My wife and I were born and raised in the Midwest; we moved back there to primarily be near family. But, both of us wanted to be in a warmer climate and really wanted to be in the mountains,” Stransky said.

The move to Haywood County seems to have been well accepted by the Stranskys’ children.

“Our oldest son, Cade, has been talking about North Carolina for months and it has not been a difficult transition at all,” Stransky said.

At Door County Memorial Hospital, Stransky was chairman of the pediatric department, and was involved in the medical executive committee, hospital ethics committee, patient safety committee and chief operations committee. He said he is open to eventually taking on similar responsibilities at Haywood Regional.

“We’ll have to see what comes about. I was an employee of the hospital at Door County Memorial. I won’t shy away from leadership roles here, but I do want to establish my practice first,” Stransky said.

He will join Drs. Steve Wall, Steven Hammel and Karen McLelland, along with assistants Hank Gaw, Anne Sarzynski, Susan Anspach and Melissa Sommerich at Haywood Pediatrics. Stransky will assist with established patients and will be accepting new patients. Appointments can be made by calling 452-2211.
