Burnett named HRMC Employee of Month for February

Melissa Burnett, reimbursement coordinator in the Patient Financial Services department, was chosen as Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Employee of the Month for February.

Burnett’s calm and confident personality was noted as one reason she should be chosen for the honor, along with her prompt attention to a request to develop an assessment document for the hospital’s Emergency Management Plan.

“We needed an assessment tool for the plan. We had a paper copy, but not a computerized copy. We asked Melissa if she could generate a form in Excel.  This took much time because it was very tedious,” a hospital employee wrote on the “Catch Someone” card.

“The next day, Melissa called me to report she had completed this project.  We now have a computerized form to work from as updates are needed. We cannot express enough thanks for the assistance she provided.  Employees like Melissa are what makes Haywood Regional Medical Center great!,” the employee wrote.

“Melissa is such a blessing to have at HRMC.  She is consistently calm and confident in her dealings with people. She has a great personality and is always so warm and caring.  I am so glad she is part of the HRMC team,” another employee wrote.

Burnett has been employed at HRMC for almost five years. “I came to work here after my husband was a patient here and all the employees we encountered were so nice, happy, and really seemed to enjoy their workplace,” Burnett said. “I told my husband ‘I think I want to work at that hospital.”

“I think coming to work is a joy when you can do something each day to help someone, even if it is a little thing like teaching someone else a new skill,” she said.

Burnett and her husband have one grown daughter, Stephania, who lives in the Chicago area. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband, being involved with their church and doing stained glass projects.

“It is an honor to be nominated as Employee of the Month when we have such great dedicated employees at HRMC,” she said.

The Catch Someone program was implemented in 2001. Special boxes with cards to be filled out — identifying the employee and reason for being nominated — are in each department.

Patients, volunteers, physicians, employees and visitors can fill out a Catch Someone card and explain why the person deserves special recognition. Recognition includes a prominently displayed portrait, an article in the STAT and a monetary award. Up to six employees are invited to a breakfast, when the Employee of the Month is named.
