Marshall Hale named HRMC Employee of the Year

Marshall Hale, facilities supervisor at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center for the past six years, received the Employee of the Year award Thursday night at a meeting of the Haywood Regional Medical Center Board of Commissioners.

Hale was one of 12 staff members chosen as Employee of the Month at Haywood Regional. He was named Employee of the Month for December for the calm and immediate manner in which he provided CPR. Hale was teaching a CPR class Dec. 3, when he heard the emergency response signal. He immediately rushed to the side of Dr. David Love, who had collapsed in the gymnasium while playing ball.

“Marshall is a caring and dedicated employee and we are lucky to have him on board at the fitness center. Marshall's passion for quality service makes him a unique employee. He is always looking for better ways to serve the members of the fitness center. I am very proud of him of Marshall and what he has accomplished over the years at Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center,” said Scotty Setser, Health & Fitness Center Director.

“Passion, strength, self-motivation, caring and compassion are all words I could use to describe Marshall,” Setser said. “He is one of the most dedicated employees we have.

“Marshall is always on the go as a trainer, lifeguard and CPR instructor. However, one of his greatest strengths is as a father,” Setser added.

Three years ago Hale was nominated on three separate occasions for the Employee of the Month award. When he received the Employee of the Month award in December, Setser said Hale was delighted just to get a free breakfast.

Hale will receive two paid days off and $100 as Employee of the Year.

“Nobody gets anything like this without the help of a lot of other people,” Hale said after receiving the Employee of the Year award. “I work with a great group of people.”

Hale worked for 20 years as a lifeguard for the Miami, Fla. Beach Patrol. He has a 4th degree black belt in karate and taught martial arts for several years. He and his wife, Susan, have five children and reside in the White Oak community.

Each month, Haywood Regional Medical Center recognizes an outstanding employee.  The Employees of the Month for 2007 included: January, Josephine Picker; February, Chenoa Gass; March, Lori Green; April, Bettye Conley; May, Michael Evans; June, Jennifer King; July, Michelle Tenhengel-Deville; August, Beatrice Mashburn; September, Angela Deal; October, Debbie Moody; November, Amanda Evans; and December, Marshall Hale.
