Amanda Evans is HRMC Employee of the Month for November
Amanda Evans, a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at Haywood Regional Medical Center, was chosen November Employee of the Month.
An Emergency Department doctor reported that Evans provided outstanding care for a critically ill patient for four hours. She continually reassured the patient and his wife, the physician said on a Catch Someone card of nomination.
“She provided patient comfort, care, and compassion one on one this entire time. Her performance is an excellent demonstration of our mission statement. This meant the world to the family,” the physician said.
Evans acknowledges the extra care she gave to the critically ill patient, but refuses to take all the credit.
“Thanks to truly impressive team work, my other three patients were cared for during that time,” she said. “My fellow RNs checked to see what I needed and the secretary prepared transfer papers. Dr. Deborah McRoberts respected my opinion that the patient needed to be flown to a larger hospital. This was team work at its best.”
Evans was born in Onadaga, Mich., and grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She has called Western North Carolina home for 16 years.
She graduated from Enka High School in 1998 and received her nursing degree from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in 2005. She has been married to Duane Evans, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit for four years. They have a 2-year-old son, Matthew.
Evans enjoys hiking, mountain biking and gardening in her spare time.
“I like the unpredictability of not knowing what my next patient will present with. I love staying busy,” she said. “I’m blessed to work with some really terrific people in the Emergency Department and other departments.”
