Mashburn named HRMC Employee of Month for August

Bea Mashburn was chosen as Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Employee of the Month for August.

Mashburn, a unit secretary in Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department, goes out of her way to consistently help others, those who nominated her say.

In addition to her unit secretary responsibilities, she helps clean and stock rooms, takes specimens to the lab, and find blankets, food, and drinks for patients, several employees who nominated her said.

“This frees up time for the nurses to help them provide better patient care,” co-worker Kim Newland said.

Other co-workers say Mashburn has a great attitude and consistently assists others.

A native of Graham County, Mashburn moved with her family to Haywood County when she was in her early teens. She began working at the original Haywood County Hospital in 1974 and worked there until 1979. She returned part-time at the new hospital campus in 2001.

“I love my job and the people I work with, both day and night shift workers. They make it a pleasure to come in to work each day,” Mashburn said.

In her spare time, Mashburn enjoys working in her yard and gardening, as well as reading, sewing, crafts and spending time with her five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
