Bettye Conley Chosen as HRMC Employee of the Month
Bettye Conley has been named Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Employee of the Month for April 2007. A Licensed Practical Nurse on HRMC’s DOCU (Definitive Observation Care Unit), Conley was chosen because of co-worker appreciation for volunteering numerous times to work the graveyard shift. She was also nominated due to physician commentary, complimenting her on her knowledge, and quick assessment of a patient’s condition which required special life-saving intervention.
Employed with HRMC for 19 years, she says she enjoys being an “old timer” in her job and that the support of her peers is wonderful. “It’s gratifying knowing that I’ve helped someone to get better and feel better,” she said. “But I accept the award on behalf of everyone in DOCU; My success is really due to the support of my peers.”
Born and raised in Canton as the 13th out of a large family of 16 children, Conley attended Reynolds from Kindergarten through 11th grade, but graduated from the first integrated class at Pisgah High School in 1967. She attended Mission’s CNA program and then went on to AB Technical college to become a Practical Nurse. She received her license in 1969 and worked at Mission Hospital in Asheville, Dewitt Army Hospital in Virginia, and the Canton Healthcare Center, prior to joining the HRMC staff. “My only regret is that I didn’t come here earlier,” she said.
Conley is the mother of two adult children and grandmother to three grand children. For fun, she likes to read and is on the hospitality committee at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. “A lot of time away from work is spent with my family,” she said. “I really feel blessed because of my life.”
