Dinner Educates Physicians on New Orthopaedic Services at HRMC
Jeffrey Chain, M.D. of Western Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists presented the concept of Haywood Regional Medical Center’s new “joint camp” program, the Carolina Center for Joint Replacement, to a gathering of physicians from Western North Carolina on June 21.
He explained how the new services at HRMC will provide patients who need hip and knee joint replacement with the optimum in care through utilization of a team concept. The program incorporates extensive education and physical therapy before surgery, patient camaraderie, education and support to keep patients positive during their hospital stay, and a continued sense of community to encourage healing and rehabilitation after the patient is discharged to go home.
Cynthia Richards, M.D. of Midway Medical Center said “I’m glad to see this program coming to the county. It’s nice to provide patients with a quality option for joint replacement surgery, close to home.”
Dr Matt Hornsby of HealthWorks rehabilitation center in Franklin noted, “I’ve never had a patient be concerned about having to make a drive in order to receive superior care so it’s thrilling to be able to recommend patients to another innovative service being provided at HRMC.”
The dinner event was sponsored by orthopaedic implant manufacturer Biomet Corporation.
