HRMC Sponsors Annual Prostate Screening
Haywood Regional Medical Center is proud to again sponsor the Annual Prostate Cancer Screening Saturday, June 16 from 8 am to 12 noon on the 6th floor of the hospital. Cost is $20 for a PSA test and registration is required.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men and simple tests can often detect it long before you have any symptoms. Urologists Leonard Verges, M.D., and Richard Steele M.D., will conduct the prostate cancer screening clinic for men over age 40.
The first part of the screening is a blood test, which detects a substance produced by the prostate gland – prostate specific antigen (PSA). The level of PSA in the blood may arise in men who have prostate cancer. The second part of the screening consists of a rectal examination to examine the prostate.
After the screening evaluation is completed and the PSA results received, patients will be advised of the results. If further evaluation is needed, patients will be notified at that time. Appointments are required and will be taken beginning May 17th. Please call 452-8088 to register.
