Physician Recruiting is a Top Priority

Meeting the healthcare needs of our growing community, Haywood Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of a new Internal Medicine physician, Ob/Gyn doctor and an Orthopaedic surgeon to its medical staff. This announcement marks the advent of recruitment for several medical specialists within the next 18 months.

“We have a mission and we have a business plan to work together with our physician groups,” said David Rice, President of HRMC. “It takes time to find a good match, but our common goal is similar. That goal is to ensure that everyone can get in to see a doctor when they need one and to present an environment that allows doctors to make a living.”

Moving back to Western North Carolina will be Jeffrey Myers, M.D., Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Myers will join Haywood Women’s Medical Center in September. He completed his Internship and Residency at MAHEC Mission/St. Joseph’s Health System in Asheville, N.C. and attended medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Moving from Thomasville, Ga., he is married to his wife Julie and they have two children.

Joining Mountain Medical Associates in July, John A. LaFata, D.O. attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, completed his internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO and his residency with Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI. Moving here from Thomasville, NC, Dr. LaFata is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, married to Margaret and the father of two.

Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Orthopaedic staff will also be growing during the summer of 2008 as a third orthopaedic surgeon joins Dr. Christofer Catterson and Dr. Jeffery Chain of Western Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists.

Haywood Regional Medical Center is also diligently recruiting physicians in Pulmonology, Vascular Surgery, Primary Care, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedics and Cardiology. “We are negotiating with a number of educated, experienced physicians who will assuredly be an asset to our community,” Rice said.

In addition, by June, Phoenix Physicians reports that the Emergency Department at HRMC will have many more, full-time Board Certified Emergency Physicians on staff: Thomas Bronaugh, M.D.; Russell Buss, M.D.; Ryan Davis, M.D.; Michael Jaffe, M.D. and Steven Kelley, M.D. This group is supported by 21 additional Board Certified Physicians to assure 24 hour a day, seven day a week coverage.
