Try-A-Tri Program

Have you ever read about a triathlon or saw one on television and thought, “I could never do that.”?

Now, you can! Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center, Healthy Haywood, and Studio 7 Multi-Sport are joining together for the Haywood Try-A-Tri Program that will introduce people to the sport and prepare them for their first triathlon — the inaugural Haymed. Org Sprint Triathlon on Mar. 29, 2008. The 12-week program will offer:

  • A three-tier training calendar based on your level of experience in swimming, cycling, and running
  • Three weeknight clinics on such topics as nutrition, swim mechanics, strength training, and bike maintenance
  • One Saturday camp to cover all aspects of competing in a triathlon
  • Twenty-four hour/seven days a week support via their coach, accomplished endurance athlete Pam Jezik
  • A team atmosphere with others enrolled in the program, including a program T-shirt
  • 50 percent off the Haymed.Org Sprint Triathlon entry fee
The cost of the program is $90 with 25 percent of the fee going to support health-related programs in the county through Healthy Haywood. For those without access to a swimming pool or fitness center, the Haywood Health & Fitness Center is offering a three-month membership for only $60. This package can be purchased when you enroll in the Try-A-Tri Program.

An orientation meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the Haywood Health & Fitness Center for all those interested in the program.
