Free Diabetes Health Fair

The number of people with diabetes in Haywood County continues to grow. In an effort to help them, the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center Diabetes Education Program will host its annual Diabetes Health Fair. This free event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center.

To kick off the fair, Chef Phil Mohr will give a presentation on healthy holiday snacks to people who have diabetes. The seminar will cover how to use Splenda in preparing holiday dishes and desserts. Samples will be available. The seminar will be from 1 to 2 p.m. in the second floor classroom of the Health & Fitness Center. Seating is limited to 72 people. Registration is required. To reserve a place, call 452-8088.

Then the scene shifts to the gymnasium for the Diabetes Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. The informational health fair is for people with type 1, type 2, gestational, or pre-diabetes, as well as those at risk for developing diabetes.

Door prizes, vision exams, foot exams, and free blood glucose screenings will be available. No registration is required. Vendors also will show and demonstrate the latest and greatest in diabetes-related products. If you or a loved one has diabetes, you will not want to miss this fun and informative event.
