Meet Our Administrators

Mike PooreMike Poore began his career in healthcare at the age of 22 and has more than 20 years of experience in virtually all aspects of healthcare administration. Poore was hired as Chief Executive Officer for Haywood Regional Medical Center on Oct. 1, 2008. The governing board of MedWest Health System voted unanimously Dec. 8, 2009 to name Poore CEO for the affiliated hospitals of Haywood Regional Medical Center, Harris Regional Medical Center and Swain County Hospital.

Prior to that, he served as senior vice president for Wellstar Health System, a five hospital system serving the northwest Atlanta market, in 2008. From 2004 until 2007, he served as vice president and administrator for Wellstar Douglas Hospital.

Originally from Mobile, Ala., Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health services administration at Auburn University and a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of South Alabama. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He and his wife, Penny, have two sons — Carter and Blake — and a daughter, Makenzie.

Gene Winters, CFOW. Gene Winters, chief financial officer for Haywood Regional Medical Center, has founded, developed, and served as the chief financial officer of three national healthcare chains — the 23-hospital Regency Hospital Company, the 5-hospital Acadia Healthcare, and the 19-hospital Transitional Hospital Corp. — as well as being a key force in developing a fourth 11-hospital chain, Summit Medical Management.

Starting his career with Hospital Corporation of America in its acute care division and as an internal auditor in its corporate headquarters in Nashville, Winters eventually became the youngest hospital CFO in the company’s history. This gave him the confidence to begin a long track record of founding hospital chains.

Winters is a 1986 graduate of the University of West Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration/Finance. Additionally, he holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a graduate degree in theology.

He and his wife, Cyndee, have a son, Elijah.

reynoldsTeresa Reynolds, chief operating officer for MedWest Health System, has a 31-year career in nursing administration.

She received her licensed practical nurse diploma in 1977. In 1984, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Kennesaw State University in Marietta. She earned a Master of Science degree in Health Administration at Central Michigan University in 2000.

Reynolds joined the staff at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga., one of five hospitals in the Wellstar Health Care System, in 1977. Over the years, she was promoted to various positions, ending as interim executive director of inpatient surgical nursing at Kennestone.

Reynolds served as interim director of nursing informatics at Haywood Regional in September 2008 and was named interim VP in October. She was appointed vice president of operations on Jan. 29, 2009, before being named COO for MedWest in February 2010.

Dwayne HooksDwayne Hooks has dedicated the majority of his nursing career to serving patients in critical care and post-acute environments.

His experience includes neonatal intensive care nursing, director of nursing for a 150-bed nursing facility, corporate nurse consultant, executive director of assisted living facilities, administrator, corporate regional manager, director of a large healthcare system’s sub-acute care program, and clinical operations/administrative consultant.

Hooks completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1990 and his Master of Nursing Degree in 2002 from the Medical College of Georgia. He is certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner and is a member of the American Nurses Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is pursuing his doctorate degree through the University of Kansas.

He was named chief clinical officer for MedWest Health System in February 2010. He served as vice president of clinical operations and chief nursing officer for Haywood Regional Medical Center from June 2009 until his appointment with MedWest.

Hooks is originally from Augusta, Ga. He has a son, Zachary.

Millsaps100Janet Millsaps, Vice President of Human Resources for MedWest Health System, has been with WestCare Health System for the past 15 years. She has served as director of human resources and vice president of staff services.

Heatherly100Steve Heatherly, Chief Strategy Officer for MedWest Health System, has been executive vice president/chief financial officer of WestCare Health System since 2007. Prior to that position, he served as the CEO of a neurosurgical practice. He also worked at WestCare from 1997 to 2005 as director of practice management, controller and CFO.

Easton100Luanna Easton, Vice President of Quality for MedWest Health System, has been with WestCare for almost 25 years, starting in radiology and more recently as vice president of performance improvement, responsible for the system’s quality measures.

Sloan100Ronnie Sloan, Vice President of Support Services for MedWest Health System and administrator for Swain County Hospital, has been with WestCare for almost 19 years. During his tenure he has served as a respiratory therapist, director of cardiopulmonary services, drector of radiology, and vice president.
