The Homestead hospice unit receives garden club donation

8/25/2011

CLYDE, N.C. – Members of the Mountain View Garden Club donated proceeds from its biennial fundraiser to MedWest Health System’s Homestead inpatient hospice unit, located on the campus of MedWest-Haywood. The donation, totaling more than $8,000, will be used for landscaping in one of The Homestead’s garden areas.

“It’s wonderful to receive such dedicated community support for The Homestead,” said Jenny Williams, Director of Hospice and Palliative Care Services for MedWest. “The Mountain View Garden Club’s gift toward beautifying our new unit illustrates how important this service is to our communities,” she said.

The HRMC Foundation raised nearly $2.9 million of the total $3.4 million project for phase one of The Homestead, and $138,000 so far toward the second phase, which will include an outreach center.

“The foundation has pledged a strong commitment to supporting inpatient hospice services in our communities,” said Steve Brown, Executive Director of Foundations for MedWest. “The kind donation from the garden club just adds to that solid support, and is much appreciated,” he said.

The Homestead is scheduled for completion in November. With six beds, it is the only inpatient hospice unit west of Asheville. For more information, call (828) 452- 8811 or visit medwesthealth.org.
