Remodel of hospital’s fourth floor at MedWest Haywood underway

Makeover expected to be complete by mid-first quarter of the New Year

Clyde, NC – The hospital at MedWest Haywood is getting a makeover. The entire fourth floor is being remodeled to better serve patients and visitors. Getting a facelift are the PCU, or Progressive Care Unit, and the Women’s Care Unit, as well as the lobby area that connects the two. The remodel is being made possible by a generous donation by The Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation.

Back in June the Foundation unanimously approved a $400,000 donation to MedWest Haywood for the remodel. $200,000 of the donation was made up front with the rest of the funds coming from proceeds of the Foundation’s annual Golf & Gala, which was held August 27 and August 28 at various golf courses throughout Haywood County.

“This decision took very little time to deliberate,” said Laura Leatherwood, Chair of the HRMC Board. “It fits perfectly with why the Foundation exists; to help grow our hospital. And we support our hospital 100%.”

A donation of this size is not new to the Foundation. Probably the most visible and significant project was the Health & Fitness Center, adjacent to the hospital on Leroy George Drive. Over $3 million dollars for this facility was funded by the Foundation. In 2012 the HRMC Foundation donated close to $250,000 in continued funding of the Homestead, MedWest Haywood’s Hospice and Palliative Care facility.

In all, the Foundation has given over $3 million to fund The Homestead. Also in 2012, The Foundation gave over $265,000 to help build a new Outpatient Care Center on the campus of MedWest Haywood.   “The board’s mission and function is to promote fundraising in support of the hospital,” said Leatherwood. “It’s mutually beneficial and helps our community in so many ways.”

“We are so grateful to the HRMC Foundation for making this remodel possible,” said Janie Sinacore-Jaberg, President and CEO of MedWest Haywood.  “We know our patients and visitors, as well as our staff, physicians and volunteers will really enjoy being in the new units when they are complete. As we move through the exciting transition that lies ahead of us, this is one more indication that our community supports their hospital,” she said.

Community members can keep up with the remodel by visiting MedWest Health System’s Facebook page, where photos are posted at each stage of the process.
