MedWest Health System awards MedWest Cup, band scholarships

CLYDE, N.C. – MedWest Health System awarded the inaugural MedWest Cup to the Tuscola High School football team Oct. 7. 
  
MedWest CEO Mike Poore and Dr. Chris Catterson of MedWest Sports Medicine made the presentation. The Cup will be awarded annually to the winner of Tuscola-Pisgah high school football. 
  
MedWest Sports Medicine provides athletic trainers to Tuscola and Pisgah high schools for daily practice and game coverage. 
  
MedWest also presented $1,000 scholarships to two high school band scholars at halftime of the game. Lori Neri of Pisgah High School and Amanda Wright of Tuscola High were the recipients. Both students are seniors and have the highest GPAs in their bands. 
  
Neri is the daughter of Lisa and Peter Neri. She plans to attend Western Carolina University and major in music or chemistry. 
  
Wright is the daughter of Tabatha and Donald Watkins. She plans to attend Appalachian State University and major in foreign language or course work for pediatric medicine. 
  
MedWest Sports Medicine provides athletic trainers to more than a dozen Western North Carolina schools and athletic programs, as well as physician coverage and physical therapy services to Western Carolina University’s student-athletes. 
  
In addition to providing daily athletic training coverage, MedWest Sports Medicine also offers annual athletic physicals for students at the schools they cover and conducts community educational outreach at area sporting events.
