MedWest-Haywood Chief Nursing Officer Dwayne Hooks receives FACHE certification

Clyde, N.C. – MedWest-Haywood Chief Nursing Officer Dwayne Hooks recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Hooks has been with MedWest-Haywood since June of 2009. Prior to joining MedWest, he was employed by WellStar Health System of Atlanta, a not-for-profit healthcare system serving a population of over one million people. He received his BSN and MSN from the Medical College of Georgia and is currently completing his PhD in Nursing at the University of Kansas.

According to the American College of Healthcare Executives, fellow status represents achievement of a high status of professional development, with only 9,100 healthcare executives holding certification in the United States. To obtain fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and experiential criteria, earning continuing education credits and demonstrating professional and community involvement. Fellows are also committed to ongoing professional development and undergo recertification every three years.

Having been in nursing since 1990, Hooks has worked in almost every facet of patient care, from neonatal intensive care, to geriatric and post-acute services. Having experience in the entire continuum of care allows Hooks to provide high quality leadership that keeps the patient the central focus.

Hooks sees FACHE certification as an important step in his own professional journey, as well as a significant leadership milestone in excellent patient care.

“The MedWest-Haywood leadership team is committed to providing the highest standard of leadership for our community’s hospital,” Hooks said. “As Chief Nursing Officer, this credential signifies knowledge obtained in order to provide leadership that ensures our patients receive the best services and care possible.”

The American College of HealthCare Executives is an international professional society of more than 40,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations.
