MedWest-Harris physical therapist Sandy Davis receives recertification in pediatric specialty

Sylva, N.C. – MedWest-Harris physical therapist Sandy Davis, PT, MPT, PCS was recently recertified as a Pediatric Certified Specialist.

Davis received her Master of Physical Therapy degree from Western Carolina University in August 1998 and began practicing physical therapy at MedWest-Harris in December of the same year. She was a member of the first class to complete WCU’s Physical Therapy program, and she also holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Georgia.

Completing the recertification process has required Davis to intensively study and update her skills in a variety of pediatric diagnoses and disorders, a task she was eager to take on.

“The primary reason I chose to pursue recertification is that I wanted to demonstrate my dedication to the field I have a passion for, which is serving pediatric patients and their families as a physical therapist,” Davis said.

The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties of the American Physical Therapy Association awards recertification to those physical therapists who demonstrate proficiency and passion for a particular field of physical therapy and who demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge. To receive recertification, one must show experience in serving the patient population that his or her credential represents, as well as pass an intensive competency assessment. The assessment is developed and administered through the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Davis practices physical therapy in the MedWest-Harris Rehabilitation Department, located next to Carolina West Sports Medicine. She also does outreach physical therapy in patient’s homes, at day care facilities, and at the MedWest-Franklin physical therapy clinic. Davis may be contacted by phone at (828) 506-7978 or by email at Sandy_Davis@westcare.org. You may also contact the MedWest-Harris Rehabilitation Department at (828) 586-7235.
