Lewis accepts new role as Director of Comprehensive Family Services at WestCare
Sylva, N.C. – Vicki Lewis, MBA, BSN, RN, CPAN, who has served Western North Carolina communities in healthcare for almost 30 years, has accepted a new role as Director of Comprehensive Family Services at WestCare.
Lewis will lead a team of nurses and staff who are dedicated to the care and health of women and children, and will oversee the labor and delivery unit at MedWest-Harris. The unit, located on the 3rd floor of the hospital, will undergo construction in 2013 to become the New Generations Family Birthing Center, a project that will reflect the outstanding regional reputation of the labor and delivery services offered at MedWest-Harris. The mother/baby unit also recently received a notable breastfeeding certification and began providing outpatient lactation consultation to new mothers.
Lewis is a Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Business Administration degrees from Western Carolina University, and soon after, began her career at WestCare. She served as Director of the Emergency Department at Cherokee Indian Hospital for five years, and then returned to WestCare as an education specialist.
“This is a critical leadership role during an exciting time for our organization,” said Patty Ward, Vice President of Nursing at WestCare. “Vicki’s team works alongside obstetricians, gynecologists and pediatricians whose reputations for high-quality care are known throughout the region.”
Certified in basic life support, advanced cardiovascular life support, and pediatric advanced life support training, Lewis currently serves as faculty with the Carolinas HealthCare System training department. In her new role, Lewis will seek to continue the legacy of high-quality care and a world class patient experience in women’s care services.
