Country music superstar and American icon Naomi Judd will give the keynote speech at Flourish. While Judd will not be giving a musical performance, she will draw upon her experiences as a hepatitis C survivor and as a former registered nurse in her talk about the importance of women’s health and wellness.
Kelly Swanson, a nationally known, award-winning storyteller, comedian, motivational speaker and author of "Who Hijacked My Fairy Tale?,” will be the featured morning speaker. Award-winning bluegrass group Balsam Range will provide lunchtime entertainment.
The mission of Flourish, which drew hundreds of participants last year, is to promote women’s well-being by highlighting the services provided locally by MedWest Health System. With more than 230 physicians, MedWest includes the hospitals MedWest-Haywood in Clyde, MedWest-Harris in Sylva, MedWest-Swain in Bryson City and the outpatient facility MedWest-Franklin in Macon County.
“We hope the event will encourage people to stay in our community for their healthcare needs,” Wilson said. “The ultimate purpose of the event is to let women know what’s available here in terms of healthcare and wellness,” said Jan Wilson, co-chair of the event and wife of MedWest radiologist Dr. Al Wilson of Carolina West Radiology.
The “Meet the Doctors” mini-event at Flourish will give participants the opportunity to meet MedWest physicians in a non-clinical environment, said Vicky Godfrey, physician recruitment coordinator for MedWest Health System. About 20 physicians will participate in this one-hour session during the afternoon part of Flourish.
MedWest clinicians will offer healthcare screenings throughout the day.
The HRMC Foundation and the MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Swain Foundation are presenting sponsors of Flourish. Lead sponsors are Carolina West Radiology and 21st Century Oncology/Haywood Cancer Center.
The event is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tickets are $45, which includes access to access to all of the day’s activities. Tickets are selling fast and can be purchased online at www.medwesthealth.org or call (828) 452-8343 for more information.
