Garbarino to discuss sports injuries July 18

A physician with Carolina West Sports Medicine will discuss how to avoid sports injuries during the monthly pediatric wellness lecture series event at Harris Medical Park from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 18.

Judson Garbarino, M.D., will be the guest speaker during the session. Dr. Garbarino joined Carolina West Sports Medicine in October 2009. He completed medical school at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he graduated with honors. He completed his residency with The Ohio State University Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency and completed a sports medicine fellowship with Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Garbarino has special training in ultrasound and conscious sedation and is skilled in medical acupuncture. He is a team physician for Western Carolina University Athletics, and performs sports physicals and concussion evaluations. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Emergency Medicine Physicians, and the American Medical Association.

The session, to be held in the main lobby of Harris Medical Park in Sylva, is sponsored by WNC Pediatric and Adolescent Care. Charles Toledo, MD, Brooke Budde, DO and Donna Brock, PNP practice there.
